REMEMBER: To get credit for the Communications Lab, your coach needs to check the activities marked with the % and Rubric icons.  You need to get at least 80% on both activities. You, also, need to show proof that you did at least five of the activities marked with the ‘5’ icon.

Reflect On What You Know

1.  What is the peripheral nervous system (PNS)?
2.  What two parts is the peripheral nervous system divided into?
3.  What functions does the PNS control?

percentage iconClick on the following link.  Scroll down to Level 6.0.  On the right side of the page, find Exercise for Kids. Click on the link and follow the directions.  You may listen to the story while you are reading. As you read the story each time, time yourself and keep track of how long it takes you to read the story. When you have finished reading the story, print the page at the end.  Answer the questions.  Pick one of the writing options and write at least a paragraph. Turn your work into your coach.

Choice of 5 iconIf you have forgotten what a mind map is or want a review on how to create one, click on the link below.

http://www.tonybuzan.com/about/mind-mapping/

Scroll down to “7 Steps to Making a Mind Map”. Think about what you learned in 4.1 Lab.  Write one of the main ideas in the center of your mind map and create. Use your mind map to write about some of the information you learned about in the lab.

If you want to create a picture rather than writing an article, use your mind map to do that.  You have colored pencils in Lab 3.2.

Choice of 5 iconClick on the following link. You will find a short article.  Read the article.  There is also a short video about the same topic. Think about the information you have read and heard. What do you think? Should young children be allowed to play football? Why or why not? Write a paragraph or two on your opinion. Use facts from the article and/or video to support your opinion.

Choice of 5 iconThere are links to two different activities below.  Do both the activities and share your results with your coach.

Click on the link. Print the copy of the brain and label the parts.

There will be a video about the nervous system after you click the following link. Watch the video.  Then, take the quiz until you can answer at least 6 of the 7 questions correctly.

Choice of 5 iconDid you realize the brain is a muscle? Read the article found at the following link. What do you think?  How could that information help some adult students? Write a summary of the article.  (Remember to use your own words and descriptions!)

Where and how is memory stored?  Click on the link below to read an article about memory and how our brain remembers things.

rubric iconWhen you are working in the medical field, you may need to write a patient instruction sheet.  CLICK HERE to open directions for writing a clear, understandable handout for your patient. For this exercise, write a patient instruction sheet with at least three pieces of information for your patient.

First, write a brief description of your patient and what you want to help them with.  On another sheet of paper, write the information you want to share with your student.
You may do research for your handout or use information you already know.  Think about a healthy diet, exercise program, heart-healthy lifestyle or something else where you could write your patient specific ideas for improving his/her health.  Your handout sheet will be graded using the rubric – which is based on the information you read on the Patient Handout Instructions attachment.

If you completed all communication activities with 80% or more accuracy, you are ready to go the math module! Congratulations!
